Description

Kunzea Essential Oil

Kunzea essential oil is one of Australia’s essential oil wonders.
Our Kunzea essential oil has many remarkable properties.

We source the premier variety of Kunzea essential oil, which has been harvested from a 1000 acre property, where Kunzea was first pioneered back in 1996 and provides the very best quality of Kunzea essential oil.

Kunzea essential oil’s properties have been highly mentioned and promoted by world renown aromatherapist Dr Daniel Peneol.
Kunzea is great for irritated red spots on the skin, is a known antiseptic, and it is fantastic for tired joints and muscles.

Unlike the strong medicinal scent of Tea Tree oil, the aroma of Kunzea is very pleasant and it’s often described as symbolising ‘the smell of the Australian bush’!

Kunzea essential oil

Kunzea flowering

Naturally occurring in the woodland of eastern Tasmania, southern Victoria and south east New South Wales. The tree requires reasonable and regular rainfall to flourish.

The kunzea ambigua plant grows to around 5 metres tall and can be found growing in clusters or groups. Kunzea actually benefits from regular pruning, otherwise it tends to become quite gangly.

Harvesting of Kunzea for the production of essential oil has been carried out for nearly 20 years. A superior variety is farmed in north east Tasmania by the wild harvesting of an extensive population of plants.

Kunzea Essential Oil Characteristics

Clear to very pale yellow in colour; watery consistency; fresh aroma with a mild spicy undertone that is not too intense.

Extraction and Farming Method

The tree grows wildly and abundantly in the wild in north east Tasmania, as well as eastern Victoria and south east New South Wales.

The Kunzea plants are sometimes naturally ‘pruned’ by grazing animals and do not require any fertilisers.

Kunzea is hand harvested and are then steam distilled immediately to maintain quality Kunzea essential oil.

History

Traditional

There are currently no recorded stories of indigenous people using Kunzea at present, but it is almost certain the indigenous people would have used the plant.

Early European Usage

The early settlers noticed native animals always use to sleep under a Kunzea shrub. It was later established that the reason why native animals slept under the bush was to rid themselves of ticks. As a result settlers called the plant ‘Tick Bush’.

Like many native Australian plants with an abundance of essential oils, the plant is not often attacked by many insects because the oil in the leaf is quite unpalatable to most insects and native animals.

Present Day Usage

Each harvest of Kunzea essential oil is tested for quality and stored at an optimum temperature to preserve the unique qualities of this oil.
It is commonly used to treat anxiety and stress, aids in relaxation.
