Description

Belissima Myrtle Essential Oil

Belissima Myrtle essential oil is Australia’s newest essential oil. The aroma is initially calming and perfume like, with white florally notes and hints of rose, its fresh, clean and smooth. It is not a blend but a unique essential oil from a very rare Australian plant, we found, propagated and grew ourselves. We harvested it for the first time in 2021.

Sadly we did not plant out enough, when we planted it out way back in 2015, as we were a little unsure how the oil would turn out, however it has turned out far, far better than we expected. We have so many different plants in plantation now, its hard to get the balance of plantings correct sometimes. I guess this will be quite a special and very limited essential oil for some years to come!

Natural Occurrence in Australia

Belissima Myrtle trees naturally occurs in only a few hectares of lowland or floodplain country, in northern New South Wales. The tree is extremely rare, and Belissima Myrtle grows to a maximum height of 10 metres in the wild. High and regular rainfall with rocky and alluvial soils are its prime habitat.

Characteristics

Clear to amber yellow in colour, watery consistency, scent of perfumy, florally and rosy notes.

Extraction and Farming Method

We selected the best smelling seedlings at a young age of around 12 months, Belinda was our prime scent tester, we screened many plants, planting the best 35% of the total seedlings we raised, the other 65% were donated to a local not for profit nursery.

Belissima Myrtle oil is extracted via steam distillation of the leaves and green branchlets. The tree is grown in plantation in the Byron Bay hinterland, in northern New South Wales. Plantation trees are planted in rows, are kept to a maximum height of 4 metres, they are hand harvested and are then steam distilled immediately to maintain quality Belissima Myrtle essential oil.

Belissima Myrtle oil is exclusive to Essentially Australia and was released for the first time in March 2021.
