Previous To Essentially Australia

Greg Trevena (founder and owner of Essentially Australia) first read about Lemon Myrtle in ‘bush tucker’ books in 1991. In addition, he read that Lemon Myrtle oil has a high citral content. In 1993, Greg obtained his first dried Lemon Myrtle leaves. The distinctly fresh, lemony aroma of these leaves sparked his further interest in Lemon Myrtle.

In 1995 Greg joined the now defunct ARBIA (Australian Rainforest Bushfood Association), based near Byron Bay. This association produced newsletters featuring new and potential Australian native rainforest crops. Lemon Myrtle was featured in the first newsletter, reviewing its oil and leaves as a herb flavouring.

In 1998, Greg planted his first Lemon Myrtle trees on his small plantation. This plantation is now mature and produces a small variety of unique rainforest products.

Late in 1998, Greg established Rainforest Foods. This business produced and sold Lemon Myrtle as a herb to gourmet food outlets. Later this company started producing its popular Lemon Myrtle honey by infusing the essential oil in rainforest honey – a truly delicious product!

Our First Lemon Myrtle Business

Consumers repeatedly asked Greg if he could do more with ‘that lovely lemon aroma’. For example, they asked: ‘Why not make Lemon Myrtle soap?’ This lead to Greg creating his first Lemon Myrtle scented soap in 1999.

It was quite amazing how far one product could go. By 2009, Greg’s business was producing 200,000 Lemon Myrtle soaps annually. In addition, there were sales of pure Lemon Myrtle essential oil, Lemon Myrtle air freshener and other Lemon Myrtle products. This business was called Refreshed Lemon Myrtle.

Mike Dean, whose family is credited with establishing Tea Tree oil around the world, joined Greg’s company in 2008. Mike was able to establish distribution for Greg’s products in the USA and UK during 2008. By late 2009, Greg sold his majority stake in the Lemon Myrtle business.

Lemon Myrtle Today

In 2012, Greg created Essentially Australia. It was only natural to re-establish his Lemon Myrtle essential oil. Together with his wealth of experience, Greg’s Lemon Myrtle essential oil is easily the best on the market.

‘We know where the best supplies of Lemon Myrtle essential oil come from,’ Greg says. ‘We have developed optimal methods to store and bottle Lemon Myrtle essential oil. With the right care, it can have a long and vibrant shelf life. Moreover, we know how to advise people on how to use Lemon Myrtle essential oil and what really makes this oil so special.’

Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil Uses

Lemon Myrtle oil is an excellent essential oil to use in an oil burner or diffuser. The popular aroma of this unique Australian essential oil can be best described as uplifting and refreshing. Also, it is a great natural solution for cleaning or creating a fresh and positive energy in the home.

Furthermore, Lemon Myrtle is great to use as an aroma in personal care and skin care products. But remember to keep the oil concentration below 1% in body care formulations, otherwise irritation of the skin may occur!

Another tip for using Lemon Myrtle oil is to create air fresheners, which have become quite popular in Australia. But perhaps one of the greatest applications is in cleaning products for beverage and food preparation areas. In addition, Lemon Myrtle is a food grade essential oil used to prepare cooking oils, sauces, salad dressings, and more.

Lemon Myrtle Benefits

One of the great benefits of Lemon Myrtle essential oil is that it has a strong antibacterial activity – stronger than Tea Tree oil. These antibacterial properties of Lemon Myrtle were demonstrated in several studies by Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia.

Moreover, we have received great feedback from people using Lemon Myrtle essential oil in body creams with several reports on improved skin conditions.

Lemon Myrtle has an uplifting and refreshing aroma, which helps creating a positive mindset and energy in the home.
