Using Australian Essential Oils Safely

Using Australian Essential Oils Safely

Applying Direct to the Skin

Many essential oils should not be applied direct to the skin, as they can cause damage to the skin or be absorbed into the body at rates too great for the body to accept.

When an essential oil is diluted eg in a carrier oil or oil burner, the benefits can occur and the body finds these quantities acceptable.

Skin test diluted and straight oil products before using. Apply a small amount, about a drop or less, to the skin on your inner arm. Do t use if redness or irritation occurs. Keep all essential oils, perfume oils and fragrance products away from eyes and mucous membranes.

Using Essential oils in a bath or footbath

Add essential oils to a tablespoon of Vegetable Glycerine, then add blend to bathing water. This will ensure the essential oils are dispersed evenly in the water.

House Cleaning

Many pure essential oils left on furniture or plastic surfaces can damage the surface finishes. It is best to use essential oils diluted into hot water or into cleaning products.

Keep Out of Reach of Children

All essential oils should be kept out of reach of children.

Medical Conditions and Advice

Professional medical advice should always be sought for medical conditions, some conditions may be simple to diagnose, however if symptoms persist, medical advice should be sought.

Ingesting Essential Oils

Essential oils should not be ingested, unless under the direction of a well trained health professional.

Avoid contact with the eyes at all times

Pregnancy

Avoid applying essential oils directly or in massage oil blends during pregnancy.

A vaporiser or oil burner is a better way to use essential oils during pregnancy, however only a conservative number of drops in comparison to normal recommended amounts should be placed in an oil burner or vaporiser during pregnancy.

Naked Flames

Some essential oils are highly flammable, so they should be kept well away from a naked flame.
